indulge in different flavors and cuisines all this weekend at four events around the valley:

  • street eats food truck festival
  • arizona strong beer festival
  • peoria greekfest
  • sangria social

scroll down for a look at each event and details on how to attend.

street eats

during the sixth annual street eats food truck festival on feb. 11 and 12, attendees can choose from over 70 food trucks. this year, the event will incorporate a greater diversity of food trucks offering barbecue, ramen, sushi, noodles, poutine, waffles, cajun, tacos, coffee, lemonade, shaved ice, grilled cheese, fry bread, southwestern, italian, mexican, sandwiches, dogs, kettle corn, pretzels, ice cream and pizza.

chris bonnell, event marketing coordinator for salt river fields at talking stick, said that food trucks have improved in the type and quality of food they can bring.

“food trucks have exploded onto the scene, especially with different concepts. so, it’s not so much the cafeteria trucks that hang out at construction sites anymore. they are restaurants on wheels,” bonnell said. “especially at these events, you are getting well-thought-out menus.”

along with selling unique food options, many trucks bring prize wheels, displays or costumed characters to the event.

bonnell said the festival allows food trucks to reach foodies from different parts of the valley. some of the trucks have taken part in the event since the beginning.

“there’s been a few that have come back year after year, that realize the value that this event has both for their business and promotion, and they actually make pretty good money at this event,” bonnell said.

each truck will sell samples of popular menu items, allowing participants to try different food trucks throughout the day.

the event, which has a backyard party vibe, has grown this year by 72,000 square feet, allowing for more food trucks than in the past.

alcoholic beverage options have also expanded with the addition of craft beer, including peanut er porter, cream ale and mandarin wheat, plus specialty cranberry-lemonade vodka drinks.

more food and more fun

for those who want a little more out of their experience, vip tickets come with access to a lounge with private bathrooms and a seating area, four $2 food tokens, six beverages and a private bar.

each day from noon to 4 p.m. top chefs from valley restaurants will give street-food cooking demonstrations inside an expanded demo tent.

those who want to enjoy food in a different way can take part in individual or team dirty-doughnut, pudding-spoon-feeding, apple-bobbing and -dog or pie-eating contests.

two stages will feature live entertainment from local djs and ians. at the second stage, youth from alice cooper’s solid rock and the school of rock will perform.

as part of uncommon markets and foodinroot farmers’ market, new features added to this year’s festival, local artisans and vendors will sell handmade artwork, upcycled furniture, trinkets, fresh produce, baked goods, homemade salsas and jellies and spices.
