wikipedia bans editors from citing daily mail as source

wikipedia editors voted wednesday to bar the daily mail as a source of reference in its entries, saying that the news website was “generally unreliable.”the editors said the vote in favor of the ban stemmed from the website’s “reputation for poor fact checking, sen ionalism and flat-out fabrication.” the wikipedia foundation said in a statement that editors have discussed the reputation of the daily mail since 2015.“based on the requests for comments section, volunteer editors on english wikipedia have come to a consensus that the daily mail is ‘generally unreliable and its use as a reference is to be generally prohibited, especially when other more reliable sources exist’,” the statement read.“this means that the daily mail will generally not be referenced as a ‘reliable source’ on englis

wikipedia issues near-total ban on daily mail sources

there will be exceptions, of course. if the daily mail was more accurate in the past, those older stories may be useful. and of course, it only makes sense to cite the paper in articles that are about the daily mail and its staff. virtually everything else is forbidden, though, and editors are encouraging volunteers to look at and potentially replace roughly 12,000 existing links.the move doesn't come out of nowhere. editors have been discussing the reliability of the daily mail since 2015, and the decision to give it the boot only e after a month-long debate that began in january. it's a dramatic step for wikipedia, however. even conspicuously biased outlets like russia today, which is backed by the russian government, don't see blanket bans like this. with that in mind, the editors say t

wikipedia editors ban 'unreliable' daily mail as source

london: wikipedia editors have voted to ban the use of articles from british tabloid the daily mail and its globally popular website as sources, calling them "unreliable", according to a statement. english-language editors of the online encyclopaedia cited the newspaper's "reputation for poor fact-checking, sen ionalism, and flat-out fabrication", said the statement posted on wikipedia wednesday. the vote means the tabloid's use as a reference should be "generally prohibited", it said. the wikimedia foundation, the not-for-profit organi ion that runs the wikipedia website, acknowledged the vote in a statement cited in the guardian, but said it was up to its unpaid editors. from now on, it said "the daily mail will generally not be referenced as a 'reliable source' on english wikipedia, an
