macros - decrease font size by one point - tex

i want to make a command that prints the argument with a font which is one point smaller than the current one.for example, if a document has 11pt font, the command has to print with 10pt. if the document has 10pt font, i want the command to print with 9pt font.i don't want this to be bound to the document's font size though. if the command is used in an environment that defines the font to be xpt, i want the command to produce a text with the font size (x-1)pt

using a clients font to print their files

each and every foundry has an end user license agreement (eula) for their fonts. they all vary to some degree. some eulas may forbid the client from ever sending you files to begin. some eulas state (paraphrasing) that sharing in order to "facilitate reproduction" is acceptable, but nothing is to be retained after reproduction. really, only reading the license will definitively explain what you may or may not do with that foundries fonts. in most cases, requiring a pdf/x-1a from clients really makes the whole font licensing issue a non-starter since fonts are embedded in the pdf. it certainly removes all liability for you (or your company) because no font software is ever transferred. but i also realize that some production methods kind of need live editable type for proper set up and pd..

how to use futura font in latex? - tex

i gather your computer runs macosx, possibly (likely?) macosx 10.12 "sierra". if so, futura medium may be installed by default in the file /library/fonts/futura.ttc. by the way, futura is a fairly large family of fonts, with 6 weights -- light, book, medium, heavy, bold, and extra bold -- in the "regular" category and 4 more weights -- light, medium, bold, and extra bold -- in the "condensed" category. for each weight, there's both an upright and an oblique (aka slanted) font shape.assuming you have access to just the system selection of futura weight/shape/(non)condensed combinations, the following program -- to be run under either xelatex or lualatex -- should give you access to both the upright and the oblique font shape of futura medium.% !tex program = xelatex % or: lualatex ...

math mode - what does \mathgroup mean? how to use it? - tex

tex allows one to say$a+{\fam4 x}$ which will print a in the default math italic and x in the font assigned to math family 4. in plain tex such assignments are static and family 4 is assigned the text italic font.in latex the assignments are dynamic, depending on the document and the math font package loaded. so one doesn't know in advance what family is assigned the boldface font; the assignment is made once and for all when the first \mathbf command is performed. this is in common with all macros defined with \declaremathalphabet.latex also calls \family in a different way, namely \mathgroup; they are synonyms.you could do\atbegindocument{% \sbox0{$\mathbf{\xdef\mathbfgroup{\the\mathgroup}}$}% } and the macro \mathbfgroup will hold the math group (family) number corresponding to \mathbf.

koma script - how to remove bold fonts from an entire document? - tex

the komascript way is to redefine font attributes using \addtokomafont or \setkomafont. in your preamble, add\addtokomafont{disposition}{\normalfont} and you remove all bold fonts in table of contents and sectioning commands (part, chapter, section etc.), without touching the other part of the definition.see page 54 ff. in the english manual (table 3.2) for a list of elements you can change using these two commands.your mwe:\documentclass[fontsize=12pt,% twoside=semi,% headings=small,% chapterprefix=true,% listof=flat]% {scrbook} \addtokomafont{disposition}{\normalfont} \begin{document} \chapter(a title) \section{a section} \subsection{a subsection in italics} \end{document} by using the documented interface when changing font attributes, you avoid later possible ‘surprises’. melania trump’s $150 million libel suit is based on a falsehood

first lady melania trump. (carlos barria/reuters)according to a new, $150 million lawsuit filed by melania trump, the daily mail falsely claimed in an article last summer that the first lady used to be a worker. in reality, the london tabloid did no such thing. trump's libel suit is based on an untruth.here is the exact wording in trump's complaint, filed in new york superior court this week. (trump previously sued the daily mail in maryland, where she also sued a blogger who actually did accuse her of being a worker. a montgomery county judge tossed out the case against the daily mail on jurisdictional grounds; trump settled with the blogger.)mail online stated in the defamatory article at issue that plaintiff's well-publicized professional modeling career in the 1990s was a ruse and that

jolla's latest mobile os upgrade focuses on the basics

jolla is going some distance to putting its sailfish os on more phones you can buy, but it's clear the startup still has a ways to go before you're ditching your existing device. it just released an early access version of sailfish os 2.1 (nicknamed iijoki) that adds features you probably take for granted on android or ios. for one, you can finally copy-and-paste text in the web browser -- yes, that wasn't present before. there's also a streamlined camera app with tap-to-focus, "initial" virtual private network support, basic 64-bit architecture and the ability to change system font sizes.

presentation - why do theoretical computer science people use the comic sans ms

there's no deeper reason behind it. i think people just like it, particular it's informal feel.theoretically computer science is a pretty informal and laid-back field. although in many fields comic sans would be considered unprofessional, the standards for "unprofessional" in tcs are much more relaxed. for example, i've observed that it's far more common to be on a first name basis with people in the tcs world, and the way papers are written are much less formal; often times problems will come with little narratives or jokes.heck, in his recent landmark paper on graph isomorphism laszlo babai wrote something that could very reasonably be interpreted as a sex joke. in many fields innuendoes such as the one found in his paper would be considered wildly inappropriate. i don't know if t...

'game of thrones' season 7 poster released, ahead of new series

‘game of thrones’ fans should start readying themselves for brand new episodes, as hbo have released the first poster for the upcoming seventh series.the new image was unveiled by entertainment weekly on wednesday night (8 march), and shows an icy backdrop with the hashtag “#gots7” written over the top of it in the show’s signature font.while it doesn’t explicitly give anything away regarding what we should be keeping an eye out for in terms of plot, the mixing of fire and ice on the poster appears to hint that one hotly-anticipated meeting might finally be taking place:  hbo fans have speculated that it could be a reference to jon snow and daenerys targaryen, who it was recently suggested would finally cross paths this series.intriguingly, there’s no mention of any da...

cruise through your kindle comics with comixology's guided view

when amazon bought comixology in 2014, it gave people the option to merge their accounts and move their kindle purchases to the popular comic app. but, today's update effectively eliminates all that, letting you buy and view comics within a single app.additionally, the patch adds a read-it-later feature similar to pocket and instapaper. kindle users can now add documents and web pages to their library through the share button. the web pages are converted to the kindle format, so you can adjust the text, font and page color. previously, saving a document to kindle was a convoluted process involving multiple email addresses, browser extensions, and occasional animal sacrifice to the e-reader gods.
