tesla drops 'motors' from its name

the obvious, tedious comparison to make is with apple, which chose to ditch "computer" from its name way back in 2007. it was the moment that the company signposted that the ipod wasn't simply a fluke and that it saw its future in consumer electronics. after all, the change was announced on the same day that it announced the first generation iphone.last summer, elon musk unveiled the second part of tesla's grand master plan for his transportation business. the document included merging the energy generation and storage businesses he was involved with, as well as widening tesla's vehicle portfolio. but beyond that, musk wants to build super-safe autonomous vehicles and enable people to rent those cars out when they're not in use.all of that would turn tesla into a conglomerate with division

2017 honda ridgeline long-term road test

by eron rogers, ociate editor on january 19, 2017as recently as three years ago, the midsize pickup market consisted of just two trucks: the nissan frontier and the toyota tacoma, neither of which had been fully redesigned in more than a decade. but the introduction (or reintroduction, you might say) of the chevrolet colorado and gmc canyon in 2015 and then toyota's redesigned 2016 tacoma breathed some life into the once-stagnant segment. for 2017, we have another reintroduction: the new honda ridgeline. like the previous-generation ridgeline (sold from 2006 to 2014), the new model is a distinctive choice for a midsize truck. the rear seat is quite roomy, providing a nice middle ground between mid- and full-size crew-cab pickups in terms of legroom. the rest of the cabin shares its overall

mosquitos are beating gene editing with id evolution

but some scientists caution that there are still a number of hurdles to clear before we even deal with problems that could come with releasing gene-edited organisms into the wild. the biggest of those hurdles is evolution. according to a new report published in nature, mosquitoes altered by gene drives in labs are showing promise, but researchers believe that in the wild, these creatures will quickly evolve resistance to the genetic modifications before they can be spread throughout the population.that's not a terribly surprising development; last year, some scientists observed the hiv virus resisting the crispr gene-editing technique. to help simulate real-life conditions as best as possible, a project called target malaria has been building elaborate mosquito enclosures that help simulat

the secret to business growth

there are countless books, websites, and even podcasts dedicated to the topic of business growth. (or its second cousin twice removed – growth ing)most of this teaching focuses on things such as the building blocks necessary to scale a business, the proven tactics required to employ robust lead generation funnels, or the people mana ent skills vital for creating a winning culture.all good and essential things for sure, but the race to grow revenue, acquire clients, and build process fails to take into account this underlying truth.if you want to grow your business, you must focus on growing your client’s business.i don’t mean to oversimplify here, but this must be your first goal. do this, and there’s a chance everything else will take care of itself – or at least the time you spend on bui

beating the january blues | the huffington post

spearheaded by leases of suvs and trucks, lease volume grew for the seventh consecutive year in 2016. the trend toward leasing also helped drive record new-car sales last year, according to edmunds' 2017 lease market report. as previously reported by edmunds, shoppers scooped up 17.5 million new vehicles in 2016, topping the previous year's sales figure, also a record, by 0.3 percent. and pickup trucks, suvs and vans accounted for 60 percent of those sales, another record high.with suv prices generally higher than those of cars, leasing provides an attractive way for consumers to get into these vehicles. as a result, suv leases have been on the rise for a number of years, and in 2016, lease volume grew to 1.9 million units, with the suv lease penetration rate increasing to 32 percent. as a

do any political parties really care about young people?

desifoto via getty images here's a question for you: if you were a twenty-year-old student, which political party would you support?personally, i'm a labour supporter. in fact, i'm more than that - i'm a fully-paid-up labour party member. recently, though, i've been very tempted to cancel my membership. why? it's pretty simple, really. i've yet to be impressed by jeremy corbyn's leadership. i think that the labour party needs a strong, principled leader, and one who's willing to scrutinise everything the conservatives do in the months and years leading up to brexit. so far, i've seen little evidence of this from corbyn. heck, you know what? it pains me to say it, but even gary lineker has been a more effective opposition to the conservatives than jeremy corbyn. so, why haven't i cancelled
